YOU MATTER....... Sometimes the hardest thing to do is actually take time for YOU. To actually put YOURSELF first. To actually do what is best for you, period.... Why does self-sacrafice come so naturally for some of us? I have no answers here but one thing that I have learned is that to be my "best self" means sometimes taking time for ME. This then puts me in a much better position to give. I no longer feel guilty, or greedy for taking time. A hike of a beautiful Arizona mountain, pulling over to watch the sun set, Starbucks, a bubble bath with a glass of wine (pure indulgence)!!! Not only does this allow for us to be a better version of our selves but it also models this for our children. This is NOT selfish behavior but merely HEALTHY behavior. It teaches our children healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with stress; taking a walk, going for a hike, taking a relaxing shower or bath, or enjoying a cup of good coffee. Remember our children watch us closely even when we are not aware. My 11 year old son recently updated his FaceBook profile to show 2 hands coming together in a heart and in between is the picture of a sunset with the words "Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen".... It stopped me in my tracks with tears streaming down my face. (They are again right now as I write this....). Imagine that at 11 yrs old! We are often so hard on ourselves. We don't expect perfection from others but for ourselves, totally different story. We need to remember to give ourselves a break. To judge ourselves appropriately. If I am to judge myself with the love in my heart, the joy in my life, then I am a TOTAL and COMPLETE SUCCESS!!!!
